Is King County Shortchanging Us? Plus, Seattle's Next Art Festival and Bellevue Pays To Park
Today on the podcast, host Jane C. Hu is joined by Elisheba Wokoma, co-founder and curator of the community art center Wa Na Wari, and their upcoming art fair, Black Graduation. Jane and Elisheba talk about Wa Na Wari’s plan to create a fun, community-oriented event, the fact that you don’t need to be rich to collect art, and how the organization wants to respond to the needs of their community. Later, Jane is joined by contributor Ryan Packer and Creative Producer Liam Billingham to talk about the latest on Seattle’s Comprehensive Plan, which aims to create or expand new neighborhood centers. They also get into the way Seattle may be getting shortchanged in King County’s new proposed plan for road repair, funded by tax collection. Finally, they talk about the news that Bellevue is going to start charging for parking in certain neighborhoods and the various challenges posed by parking versus taking public transportation.
