💰 Are we paying taxes this year?
April 13, 2026
Happy Monday! Another day, another celebrity screwing up the name Pike Place. (Celebrities - they’re just like me, Liam). To quote someone on Reddit, ‘Come on, Drew.’

Today’s Must-Know

Get Free Healthcare This Month
If you are one of the 20,000 people who dropped their coverage this year, or just can’t afford to see a doctor even with your insurance, the annual Seattle King County Clinic is around the corner. [Seattle Times]
- 🕧 When & where: The clinic runs April 23 - 26 at Fisher Pavilion in Seattle Center. It is first-come, first-served, and patients start lining up as early as 12:30 am. Tickets for entry will be distributed at 5:30 am.
- 👥 Who: Anyone. Patients don’t need proof of income, insurance, or immigration status. Just show up. You don’t even have to be a King County resident. Read more here.
- 🦷 What: Dental, vision, and medical care are available. You can’t do both dental and vision on the same day, but you can go multiple days and receive care. There are also social workers who can help with discount programs for utilities and ways to find low-cost insurance.
- Volunteer-driven: The event brings together healthcare orgs, businesses, and civic agencies to put this event on. Most importantly, it is staffed by volunteer medical care professionals who want to help.

What Seattle’s Talking About
🧳 Higher checked bag prices: Over the weekend, Alaska Airlines, along with Delta, JetBlue, and other airlines, increased their prices for checked bags. KOMO has a list of current increases. The reason? Increased fuel costs from the ongoing war in Iran. To avoid those fees, don’t check bags, check fewer bags, and see if your reward credit cards cover checked baggage. [KOMO]
💰 Millionaires tax challenged: A group led by former AG Rob McKenna and the Citizens Action Defense has filed a lawsuit saying that the recently-passed ‘millionaires tax’ is unconstitutional because it doesn’t tax all incomes equally, per a 1933 ruling. But, KUOW reports, there’s just one big catch. [KUOW]

🐜 Do we all hate bugs? With the weather getting warmer, bugs are coming out to play, and Axios Seattle surveyed Seattle readers on which bugs they hate the most. Flies didn’t win, which surprised me because I hate them. Read on to see what the winner was. [Axios Seattle]
🔢 Should we pay our taxes? Tax Day is Wednesday, and a National Tax Strike is gaining attention as a way to protest what many perceive as the Trump Administration’s authoritarianism. Journalist Andrew Engelson weighed the risks of not paying (or slowly paying) your taxes in a piece for his publication, Cascadia Journal. He also joined us on the pod today. [Cascadia Journal]
