🏙️ Wilson advisor steps down
February 6, 2026 · Jane C. Hu and Ashley Smith edited City Cast Seattle this week.
Happy Friday, Seattle! It isn’t every day that the absurdist humor site Clickhole covers your city, but they’ve reimagined our crosswalk signals with a “BBL” (if you don’t know what that is, beware of Googling it)! Our favorite comment: ‘that’s just Cal Raleigh.’

Today’s Must-Know

What Are We Eating for the Super Bowl?
For some of us, the most important part of the Super Bowl is the movie trailers (me) and the food (me and everyone else on the team, I think), so we thought we’d give you some recs for what we’re eating during the bowl.
- Liam: I’m having a friend over during the game, so I’m predicting some tall boys from Bizarre Brewing and some Dantini pizza.
- Jane: Is it legit to eat a bunch of snacks even if I’m not watching the game? Milk Drunk is one of my favorite spots in town, and they’re selling Super Bowl party packs with wings, mac salad, and dips.
- Ben: My friends are ALWAYS looking for an opportunity to make buffalo chicken dip… so guess what Sunday is: an opportunity!
- Sam: I’ll be tuning in for the Bad Bunny halftime show, so I’d recommend checking out Puerto Rican food truck Mi Patria in Hillman City in his honor. They’re open from 12-6 p.m., so plenty of time to pick up something delicious like their empanadillas, a mofongo bowl, or their flan de queso.
- Ashley: I’m thinking wings from Wing Dome, pizza from Pagliacci, and cider from Yonder. Oooh or maybe this giant doughnut from Top Pot!
If you’re looking for more food recs, KIRO 7 has got you covered.

What Seattle’s Talking About
Police Chief Says Crime Is Down Despite Recent Shooting 👮
Seattle Police Chief Shon Barnes says that overall crime is down 18% and murders were down to 58 in 2025 from 79 in 2024. Barnes claims that his “Seattle-Centric Policing Plan” is making the city safer. This report arrives just a week after the shooting of two teenagers on Rainier Avenue, now identified as Traveiah Houfmuse, 17, and Tyjon Malike Stewart, 18. Barnes was not present at the crime scene last weekend, and an SPD spokesperson told PubliCola he was at an ‘out of town meeting with law enforcement officials to discuss federal immigration response policies to ensure the safety of Seattle.’ [PubliCola]
New Light Rail Segment Celebrates Its First Closure 🎉
We are two months into having light rail between Angle Lake and Federal Way, and now those stops are reaching another right of passage: they will be closed this Saturday! Citing “unanticipated voltage fluctuations,” Sound Transit spokesperson Henry Brendon says this weekend’s shutdown will make sure there are no unplanned closures in the future, and also to get ready for the (🤞) victory parade next week. Mayor’s Advisor on Homelessness and Public Safety Leaves Role 🪑
Lisa Daugaard, the founder of the LEAD Diversion Program and advisor to Mayor Wilson, has stepped down after a decision by Seattle Ethics and Elections Director Wayne Barnett. The reason? Daugaard is the co-director of Purpose Dignity Action, which is a contractor administering the city’s LEAD program, and Barnett claims her work there on diversion and temporary housing represents a conflict of interest with her work for Wilson in the same areas. In his decision, Barnett said Daugaard would have to “formally sever ties with PDA” to work with the mayor’s office. This decision comes after Barnett decided to fine Wilson for accepting financial help from her parents for childcare. [PubliCola]
License Plate Reader Regulation Bill Passes WA Senate 🚗
A bill to regulate the use of data from automated license plate readers has passed the WA Senate. CBP also gained access to the data through queries from the police conducting searches on their behalf. The legislation says that the cameras can only be used to investigate stolen vehicles, missing persons, and vehicles tied to misdemeanors or felonies. However, it also increases the amount of time data can be stored, from 72 hours to 21 days. The bill passed 40 - 9, with only Republicans opposing. It now goes to the House for consideration.
