✈️ Airlines add Super Bowl flights!

January 27, 2026

Happy Tuesday, Seattle! I hope everyone recovered from whatever post-win celebrations you took part in. I, for one, am coming off a weekend with sick family members, and it was no fun! Make sure you and yours are washing your hands, getting their vaccines, and staying home when sick. Let’s all take care of each other this year!

Today’s Must-Know

Did We Mention the Seahawks Are Going to the Super Bowl?

Because they are! But in the meantime, they must survive a harrowing bye week, which no one enjoys.

  • What’s Better Than Revenge? Executive Producer Ashley Smith has deemed this Super Bowl ‘REVENGE BOWL,’ as the Seahawks are meeting the New England Patriots in the big game for the first time since 2015, when cornerback Malcolm Butler intercepted a pass at the goal line, stopping the Seahawks' go-ahead touchdown. Sorry to bring this back up, but, uh, it had to be said. Nevertheless, REVENGE BOWL! [Wikipedia]
  • More Alaska Flights to SF: Alaska and other airlines are adding more round-trip flights to get fans from Seattle to San Francisco, and United is getting in on the fun with direct round-trip flights with the number 14 (for Sam Darnold) and number 11 (for Jaxon Smith-Njigba). Now the question is: can you afford a ticket to the game? [KIRO7]
  • A Few Things We Loved To See: Mayor Katie Wilson cheering on the team! Blue Thunder drum line! Marshawn Lynch on a Lime bike! Pope theory confirmed! Cheering on public transit! JSN hugging his mom! So much good stuff out there about the Hawks!

What Seattle’s Talking About

We’re Very Close to Setting a New Record for Dry January ☀️

It’s been an unusually dry January. So dry, actually, that if we get to tomorrow with no rain, we will tie the record of 15 days with no rain set back in 1963. Wednesday is looking like rain, and that isn’t a bad thing, cuz we have two less inches of rain currently than we should. Let’s hope we make up for lost time! [KOMO]

Natural Gas Battle Heads to WA Supreme Court 💨

A legal battle between proponents of natural gas and environmental groups in WA state is headed to the WA Supreme Court. Proponents of Initiative 2066 say that it ensures access to natural gas as a source of energy for their homes and buildings. Opponents say the measure is unconstitutional and too broad. ICE Is Out in Force in Washington 🧊

It may feel like all of ICE’s focus is in Minneapolis, but that’s far from true. This weekend, The Burner reported an abduction at Aurora and 160th. Additionally, the Seattle Times has numbers on ICE arrests, and what stood out to me the most was that Washington is among the top for “at large” arrests: those that take place out in public. More than 80%. Here’s a reminder for how to report ICE activity in Seattle. Protests against ICE continue to take place in Seattle, and Governor Ferguson is preparing legal challenges to similar large-scale operations in Seattle and Washington state. Lastly, if you’re traveling out of SEA-TAC any time soon and have concerns about ICE, Sam Cho has an extensive response to a concerned traveler over on Reddit.

Donate Blood, WA! 🩸

I think right now we may be feeling a little helpless, but one thing you can do is donate blood here in Washington State, which is facing a severe shortage. If you’re type O, this is especially true. Here’s a place to schedule a donation.

What To Do

Tuesday, Jan. 27

Wednesday, Jan. 28

Thursday, Jan. 29

Folks, I know my mother reads these newsletters (hi mom!), and I know she’ll be disappointed to know I’m rooting for the Seahawks over my hometown New England Patriots, but what can I say? You’ve won me over, Seattle!
