🍴 Three-courses from Seattle’s best chefs for $60
December 8, 2025 · — Sam
Hi Seattle! Sam here. This atmospheric river isn’t done dumping on us yet, so I’d recommend making indoor plans for the week – we have plenty in our events round up! I’m writing this newsletter from the cozy Day Made Kaffe Bar in Pioneer Square, which has a mouthwatering cardamom knot.

What's DC Talking About

How to Commute Safely in the Atmospheric River
The atmospheric river storm forecast for this week is projected to be one of the stronger weather events we see this season. Meteorologists are now forecasting a Category 5 (the highest rung on their rating scale). While not on par with an extreme rating like a Category 5 hurricane, the rating means that the storm has potential for major river flooding. [Emerald City Weather]
- The Worst Should Be Over After Wednesday: But, be prepared for flooding, especially outside the city. The Snoqualmie River near Carnation and the Snohomish River near Monroe could reach major flood stages.
- How to Bike Commute in the Rain: Though we don’t recommend traveling in the worst of the storm, our very own Jane C. Hu has written a guide for rainy season bike commuting. They have recommendations for routes, safety gear, how to dress for the weather, and more. [City Cast Seattle]
- Feeling Rusty? Jane has you covered there, too. Cascade Bicycle Club offers adult classes on basic cycling techniques and urban cycling if you want to feel more confident in your bike skills.

Federal Immigration Crackdown Impacts Felt Throughout WA 🚨
The exact number of Washington residents affected by the new policies is difficult to calculate, but The Seattle Times estimates it’s easily in the tens of thousands. These are the most widespread changes on legal immigration since Trump’s return to office. They are detailed in the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services policy memo posted online last week. [Seattle Times]
- All asylum decisions will be halted for people currently in the U.S., and asylum approvals issued during the Biden administration will be reviewed.
- The issuance of special immigrant visas to Afghans who assisted U.S. forces is suspended.
- Immigration applications, like requests for green cards or naturalization, filed by nationals from 19 countries, mostly in the Middle East or Africa, will be paused.
- Officials say they will also reexamine the green cards and immigration benefits already issued to people from those countries.
New York Times’ Seattle World Cup Guide Is Interesting… 🤔
Aside from a multiparagraph treatise on our summer weather, this guide also includes the sentences: “if you were thinking of strolling from downtown to some trendy bar on Capitol Hill and do not typically walk on four legs, make a different plan. Fortunately, for the visiting soccer fan, the bulk of the Seattle experience will be in the downtown core.” In other words, read on at your own risk and with the ire Seattleites reserve for out-of-towners writing about our city in the national paper of record. There are some fun facts about Seattle’s sports history, though! [The New York Times]

Police Unable to Solve Majority of Violent Crimes in WA 🔍

The more detailed breakdown includes solving 62% of homicides, 51% of aggravated assaults, 31% of robberies, and just 25% of rapes. [Washington State Standard]
