🌲 What to do this December in Seattle
December 1, 2025
Happy December, Seattle! It’s Liam. I’m so excited to spend my first holiday season here in Seattle, and I’d like to know: what should I do this month as a first-timer? The team shares our own recommendations on the podcast today. Check out a few of them below.

What's DC Talking About

What To Do This December From the City Cast Team
- Jane: The best thing that I have eaten recently is the mortadella sandwich at Hushy's in Fremont. The bread is perfect. There's burrata, pistachio, pesto, and honey. It's huge. I thought, ‘there’s no way I'm not going to be able to finish this.’ And then I housed it within like 10 minutes because it was just so good.
- Ashley: Urban Craft Uprising’s Winter Show is Dec. 5-7 at the Seattle Center Exhibition Hall. All the trinkets and gifts you could ever dream of in one room. I always spend a ton of money on pottery, jewelry, and junk journal supplies. It’s my favorite way to shop small and local for gifts. And it’s nice that this one is centrally located!
- Sam: Sweat out the winter gloom at Southgate Roller Rink. And if you, like me, can’t really skate, there's a roller derby bout on Dec. 6 called Wreck the Halls: Rainier Roller Riot vs Bellingham Roller Betties Grit Pit. It's also a fundraiser for KOI, which is a grassroots, trans-led organization that's helping trans people to evacuate from legislatively hostile parts of the country. And there will be a Cheer Seattle mid-bout performance!
- Liam: Go see a good holiday or holiday-adjacent movie that isn’t a big studio movie. Fiddler On The Roof at SIFF, Fanny and Alexander at The Beacon, or just go see something indie or foreign that is playing at a local movie theater. Walk to the theater. See the movie. Have a drink or a meal and talk about it with whoever you go with. Make it an event! And also, be sure to check out our article about Movie Theaters in Seattle to get some ideas on where to go.
- Ben: Try Seattle foodie Zoe Kahn’s schmear at Hey Bagel! It’s delicious, and Zoe is going to be talking bagels with us later this week.

Fatal Overdoses Are Declining in Seattle 📉
Public Health Seattle & King County says that overdoses have declined by 31% over the last two years. Mayor Harrell says it’s due to an increase in drug deal arrests, but the public health department says it is more likely due to a public health effort that involves access to drugs that curb cravings and distributing naloxone, a drug that reverses overdoses.
