This has got me wondering: what other WA license plates should be available? Think about that while we get you caught up on the news!

What's DC Talking About

A Pipeline Leak Could Mean Sea-Tac Runs Out of Fuel

Gov. Bob Ferguson has declared an emergency in response to the shutdown of the Olympic Pipeline due to a leak south of Everett. [KUOW]

  • What Does an ‘Emergency’ Mean? It suspends state regulations on working hours for commercial drivers transporting jet fuel, so enough can get to Sea-Tac and ensure it doesn’t run out of jet fuel. This order will be in place for 14 days. [Seattle Times]
  • This Is Not the First Leak in Recent Days: On Nov. 11, fuel leaked into a drainage ditch on a blueberry farm in Everett, which led to the first shutdown. It was open for one day before shutting down again.
  • Will SEA Run Out of Fuel? Airport spokesperson Perry Cooper said there are no impacts to flights at this time, and Alaska Airlines spokesperson Tricia Bruckbauer said they are planning contingencies, which include more trucks bringing in fuel, having planes fuel to capacity before arriving in Seattle, and looking for ways to conserve fuel.
  • Will My Flight Be Affected? There’s no estimate for when this will be over, but if it isn’t by Saturday, that’s possible. Be sure to check with your airline about your flight. I recommend FlightAware as a place to check flight status.
