🔥 Does South Seattle have an arsonist?
November 13, 2025
Good Morning, Seattle! I’m not going to lie. I’m tired. We’ve been up late every night covering this (INSANELY) close election, but now that it's mathematically impossible for Wilson to lose... I have a question. Where can I get a good shot of espresso? Read to the end to find out how you can tell me.

Does South Seattle Have an Arsonist?
This is some scary news. In October, Seattle police reported 33 cases of arson, the most in five years. Eight of those fires were started on one night: Oct. 17, which saw fires all over South Seattle. Other parts of the city have also seen an uptick in fires. People are still looking for suspects. [Seattle Times]
- Most Recent Fire In Belltown: Bangrak Market, a popular restaurant in Belltown, was hit by arson on Nov. 2. The restaurant survived without structural damage, but part of the dining area remains closed, meaning the business isn’t at full capacity. [KING 5]
- South Seattle Fires Remained Unsolved: Five fires were set in South Seattle over a two week period in July and August. These fires damaged two homes under construction, a fence, a car, and the Columbia City Funeral Home & Crematory. Another fire burned the bathhouse at Mt. Baker Beach, though it is not believed to be connected to the other fires. [South Seattle Emerald]
- What To Do if You See Someone Setting a Fire:
- Call 911, obviously.
- If you have information about these intentionally set fires, call 1-800-55-ARSON or email with any information – you can choose to remain anonymous. [Fire Line, Seattle Fire Department]
- Photographic evidence can help lead to an investigation, according to fire department spokesperson David Cuerpo. Make sure security cameras are working and covering spots where a fire could be started.

☑️ Controversial Congressperson is Lone Washington Democrat to Vote Yes to Reopen Government: Marie Gluesenkamp Perez, who represents the Republican-leaning third congressional district in Washington, has voted yes to reopen the government. All but six democrats voted against the deal, as it does nothing to address the expiration of tax credits which, if left unaddressed, will cause health care premiums to skyrocket. Gluesenkamp has faced criticism for siding with Republicans in the past. She remains politically vulnerable entering the midterms. [Seattle Times]
🏈 We Have the Best NFL Team? ESPN insider Brady Henderson asked if any teams are better than the Seahawks following a 44 - 22 win against the Cardinals this past weekend. The answer is ‘nah, definitely not, Brady.’ We also have the second-longest winning streak behind the Patriots and the Broncos. But who’s counting, anyway? (ok, I guess we are) [Sports Illustrated]
🥹 Libraries Are Amazing: The Bellevue Library is turning 100 years old this November. It started off with 300 used books in the back of a cafe (started by The Bellevue Woman’s Club!) and is now home to 600,000 books, study spaces, a massive children’s section, and a Makerspace with laser printers, audio equipment, and more. In short, libraries are amazing community spaces, and you should get a library card and visit yours often. [Seattle Times]
